The MAXXI Archive is the privileged place to discover the too early ideas of brilliant engineers. Ideas once judged impossible, which today could perhaps be realized. Projects that remained on paper that often arrived too soon, when the technology to make them was not available or the economic conditions did not favor their transition from fantasy to reality.
Sergio Musmeci was a visionary engineer, whom his fellow engineers and architects and critics did not hesitate to call "a genius" . At the time of his disappearance, on March 5, 1981, in his studio, on his table, there were still many original ideas to develop. Over time some visions have become reality. Others are still waiting for new generations of engineers capable of taking them out of the world of fantasy. His papers have been taken out of the archive and exhibited here hoping to illuminate some eyes, to tickle some ingenuity. Musmeci was a designer of structural architectures never seen before, a very clear university professor for his students, a theorist with great mathematical skills capable of venturing into pioneering fields for his time.
The exhibition is linked to Technoscape because it bridges the past and the future. The engineers of history had visions of the future, they imagined it, they tried to anticipate it, which is why the Future is also kept in the Archive.
