Fondazione Modena Arti Visive is a center of cultural production and professional and educational training aimed at disseminating contemporary art and visual culture and acting as a point of reference in the interaction between different disciplines and artistic languages and in the dialogue between the arts, science and technologies.

Thanks to the multiplicity of locations it manages and collecting the legacy of the three institutions that merged into it - Galleria Civica di Modena, Fondazione Fotografia di Modena, Museo della Figurina - Fondazione Modena Arti Visive presents itself as a cultural district that proposes and organizes exhibitions and courses of high training, workshops, performances and conferences, enhancing its heritage and building a system of networks at a local and extraterritorial level aimed at enriching the community in which it operates. Established in the 17th century by Francesco I d'Este as a "casino" - place of entertainment for the Este court - inside the gardens of the Palazzo Ducale, the construction of the Palazzina is attributed to the architect Vigarani. Together with the park, it was donated a century later by the Duke to the citizens; over the years it fell into disuse, until it became a greenhouse and tool depot in the 20th century. Towards the end of the Seventies, as part of a plan to enhance the historic center promoted by the Municipal Administration, the Palazzina was restored and brought back to its original scenographic function. A subsequent and recent conservative restoration made it possible to further enhance the extraordinary quality of the spaces, the large windows, the spacious wall surfaces and the heights, making the Palazzina an optimal place for exhibitions of international importance.
