The MA*GA– Museo Arte Gallarate is one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Italy. The museum was founded in 1966 as the Civic Gallery of Modern Art of Gallarate with the works acquired during the first editions of the National Visual Arts Award of the City of Gallarate, active since 1949. The museum is currently managed by the Silvio Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art Foundation Zanella born in 2009 from an agreement between the Municipality of Gallarate and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. The Foundation's mission is to develop the museum's activities, from the conservation of the collection, which currently has more than 6,000 works of Italian art from the post-war period to the present, to exhibitions and educational activities for audiences of all ages. Since 2015, the Sala degli Arazzi Ottavio Missoni has also been permanently set up, dedicated to the work of the great artist and stylist who set up his own fashion house in Gallarate in 1953, together with his wife Rosita.
