On the occasion of the centenary of the famous Milanese school of arts for liturgy, from December 9, 2021 to January 16, 2022, the Stelline Foundation hosts the exhibition The Beauty of the Sacred. Milan and the Beato Angelico School 1921-2021, curated by Jacopo Benedetti, Umberto Bordoni, Riccardo Cavallaro, Alessandro Nanni with Giovanni Chiaramonte. Drawing from the extraordinary richness of the photographic archive of the Beato Angelico School, the exhibition's display path - set up in the Quadriportico of the Stelline Foundation - offers a narrative that, through 40 photographs and descriptive texts, addresses the development of the relationship between the School and the civil and ecclesiastical context by themes. In particular, it aims to offer visitors an overview of the aspects that have indissolubly linked the institution to the city that hosts it over a century. The exhibition indeed aims to reflect and highlight the contribution offered by the School, during this century of its existence, particularly to the city of Milan and the Lombardy region, while indicating the guidelines for its renewed presence in the current city and international context. Founded in the Lombard capital in 1921 by Monsignor Giuseppe Polvara, the Beato Angelico School is an Italian expression of the liturgical movement and the dialogue between the Church and the arts: in these one hundred years of presence, it has indeed built, restored, adapted, and decorated hundreds of churches in the national territory and abroad, training thousands of students including the photographer Gabriele Basilico, the director Ermanno Olmi, the architect Mario Botta, the artists Marcello Chiarenza and Adrian Paci.
