Inaugurated in 1977, the “Luigi Spazzapan” Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art is the first regional museum institution in Friuli Venezia Giulia dedicated entirely to contemporary art. The Gallery is named after the famous artist Luigi Spazzapan, born in 1889 in Gradisca d'Isonzo (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire) and died in Turin in 1958.

Over the years, the Gallery has become an important center of cultural production, whose cornerstone of activity is not only the enhancement of the works of Luigi Spazzapan conserved here, but also of the works and installations of authors from the area and neighboring regions.

In recent years it has undergone a significant expansion and renovation, as well as a multimedia adaptation to contemporary museum standards.

The Gallery is managed by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, through ERPAC - Regional Body for Cultural Heritage, thanks to an agreement signed with the Municipality of Gradisca d'Isonzo and the Cassa di Risparmio di Gorizia Foundation.
