Sculptor, painter, architect and poet, Michelangelo Buonarroti was an architect of incomparable works for moral tension, energy of form, complexity of the concepts expressed. To the figure of Michelangelo, who can be said to be unique in the history of Western civilization, and to his uniqueness that still appears timeless today, Genoa dedicates the exhibition Michelangelo the divine artist, produced and organized by the Palazzo Ducale Foundation for Culture and the MetaMorfosi Cultural Association and curated by Cristina Acidini with Elena Capretti and Alessandro Cecchi.

From Thursday 26 March to 19 July 2020 Palazzo Ducale presents an exhibition itinerary that focuses special attention on a particular aspect of the uniqueness of the Tuscan master: the exceptional encounters that dot Buonarroti's biography.

In fact, in his prodigiously long and industrious life, the artist from early adolescence was in contact, thanks to his talent and, later, to his fame, with high-ranking figures of the Renaissance age, in key positions in politics. , in religion, in culture. No other artist has ever been able to boast, nor can boast today, of having frequented under their own roof two future popes as young children (Leo X and Clement VII, of Medici lineage), or of having served seven popes, or of having entertained direct relations with patrons of the greatness of Lorenzo the Magnificent and the royals of France, Francis I of Valois and daughter-in-law Caterina de 'Medici.
