The exhibition Look at me! I am a story... The Portaroli del Pitocchetto will be held at the Pinacoteca di Ferrara from July 10th to October 4th, as the first of a series of three dossier exhibitions planned at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara (July 2020 - March 2021), which offer a deep reflection on individual works from Italian museums, inviting the public to carefully observe them and to learn about the work of study, scientific organization, and cultural communication in the museum and university context. The project, organized in partnership with the National Museums Network, particularly the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica - Galleria Corsini in Rome, and the Musei Reali in Turin, is the result of collaboration between the Gallerie Estensi and the DiDiArt Laboratory of the Department of Humanities at the University of Ferrara. Young scholars and students from UniFe participated in the research, design, and organization phases under the supervision of officials from the National Galleries and some members of the Scientific Committee of the Laboratory. The students had the opportunity to approach the museum life and study directly with those who have been working at the Galleries for years and generously shared their experience. "With these exhibitions, we want to propose painting as narration. The exhibitions focus on important paintings in art history and are designed to make the public appreciate the detailed and methodical analysis of the artwork," explains Martina Bagnoli, director of the Gallerie Estensi. "The viewer is encouraged to discover everything a painting tells about a historical period, an iconographic subject, a painting style, and the relationship with the viewer. These small exhibitions are created to teach the public to slow down their gaze. They are also an opportunity to train budding curators. In fact, the exhibition is curated by students from the Department of Humanities at the University of Ferrara, who have been involved in every phase, from the setup to the writing of texts, from communication to education, and have had the opportunity to closely appreciate the work of study, scientific organization, and cultural communication that the museum requires."
