The Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna , housed in the fifteenth-century building of Palazzo Galvani , is one of the most prestigious institutions in the city .

Opened to the public in 1881, it is best known for its Egyptian collection , the third in Italy and among the most important in Europe.

Its Roman, Greek and Etruscan-Italic sections are also very rich, the materials of which constitute the most important nucleus of the Museum and document the development of Felsina. The museum is completed by a recently refurbished Gipsoteca , the Gallic section and one of the most important numismatic collections in the country .

The most important finds of the Archaeological Civic Museum of Bologna are the five Reliefs of the tomb of Horemheb , general of the army at the time of Pharaoh Akhenaten who, with Tutankhamun, reached the highest levels of military command, eventually becoming pharaoh.

Also worthy of mention is the statue of Nero , found in 1513. The sculpture was erected by the Bolognese to pay homage to the Emperor who had financed the reconstruction of Bologna after the fire in 53 AD.
