At the center of a curtain preciously embroidered with pomegranate motifs, symbols of fertility and abundance, resides the Virgin, who embodies the image of a real pregnant woman as she pushes back the folds of her dress to show her pregnancy.
Two angels, made starting from the same overturned cardboard, open the curtain to reveal the exaltation of motherhood.
Painted by Piero della Francesca for the church of Santa Maria in Momentana in Monterchi, known since ancient times for traditions and rituals linked to fertility. In the early 1990s, the work was restored and moved to the former elementary school of the municipality, which was later transformed into a museum, where it is still kept today.
