From 14 October to 13 February 2022
Powerful bodies and delicate female figures, masterpieces by masters such as Canova and Michelangelo, expression of classical iconography, whose marble purity contrasts with the aggressiveness of the colorful, provocative tattoos that emerge from the skin. Every appearance is subverted in the new In Between exhibition at the Royal Museums, which for the first time in Turin are hosting the monumental works of Fabio Viale, who has gained international fame thanks to his extraordinary ability in transforming marble. With the collaboration of the Galleria Poggiali, from 14 October 2021 to 9 January 2022 five monumental sculptures set up in Piazzetta Reale and a path curated by Filippo Masino and Roberto Mastroianni inside the Royal Palace testify to the continuous experimentation of the Piedmontese artist and present two works unpublished, unveiled to the public in the spaces of the Savoy residence.
After the solo exhibition at the Glyptothek Museum in Munich, the participation in the Venice Pavilion of the 2019 Biennale, the exhibition at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and Truly, an exhibition widespread in the symbolic places of the city of Pietrasanta in the summer of 2020, Viale also leads to the capital his sculptures from Piedmont are impressive not only for their technical virtuosity, but above all for their ability to reinterpret the forms and themes of classical art in a contemporary key. Eternal models of beauty and metropolitan tribalism, tradition and innovation, a timeless past and the most current imagery come together in this exhibition designed to make public space and museum space interact and dialogue.
The exhibition is an opportunity to explain Viale's long-term research and refined and eccentric poetics, deepening the theme of production techniques within a modern professional sculpture atelier, between traditional knowledge and numerical control technologies.
