Imago Mundi Foundation presents Qatra Qatra / Drop by drop. Visions from Afghanistan (from 25 November 2021 to 9 January 2022), the new exhibition at the Gallerie delle Prigioni dedicated to Afghanistan, which offers a timely reflection on the complex history of this extraordinary country, with a focus on women, their strength and their courage.

This exhibition, curated by the Afghan conceptual artist and researcher Amanullah Mojadidi, is inaugurated not by chance on 25 November, World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the protagonists are four Afghan artists, activists for emancipation, who have made the fight against discrimination and the critique of social and religious norms the figure of their artistic practice.

One of them, Kubra Khademi, illustrator, performer, activist, will be present on the opening day and will perform in the Female Crimes performance: inspired by the environments of the Prisons Galleries and their ancient function of prison, Kubra has created for this exhibition over 40 drawings installed behind the peepholes of the cell doors: visitors, opening the peepholes, will see some apparently harmless actions represented in the drawings, which become, for a traditionalist and ultra-conservative mentality, crimes if committed by a woman. Waiting for the visitors, behind a peephole, there will be Kubra herself, in the pose of the kings of ancient Persian fairy tales. In this way, he will reinterpret the concept of power. In his reinterpretation, it is no longer the king of fairy tales who exercise power, but the female element, able to fascinate the male one and, therefore, according to a certain tradition, to be feared and condemned. In his performance, Kubra will then personify a djinn, a figure halfway between a witch and an evil elf, recurring in Islamic folklore.
