Les Abattoirs, literally "The Slaughterhouses" is a cultural center and museum of modern and contemporary art in the city of Toulouse. The museum is housed in the ancient slaughterhouses of the city, which in 1823 were all grouped in a single point, a new purpose-built building, with a longitudinal plan, with a symmetrical articulation. The slaughterhouses continued with their activity until 1988. After their closure, the transformations into a site dedicated to culture began, with the official inauguration in 2000. The museum's collection consists of around 3,400 works by 950 different artists, covering a time span from the second half of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st. Among the works, the monumental curtain with "The Deposition of the Minotaur in Harlequin's costume" by Pablo Picasso also stands out. The museum also organizes numerous temporary, monographic, historical or thematic exhibitions, a privileged tool for the museum to continue and refine research in the field.
