The Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli called “Il Santuccio” is located in the historic center of Siena. The church was part of the Augustinian female monastery of Santa Maria degli Angeli and was built in 1352 and then rebuilt by the Sienese architect Annibale Bichi in 1577. The name "Il Santuccio" derives from the fact that the noble family of the time were the Santucci, as well as benefactors of the church. On the main altar is still preserved the large canvas with "The Madonna, the child and the Saints" made by Francesco Vanni in 1610. The fresco with the concert of Angels by Ventura Salimbeni in 1612 is certainly of great interest. the same artist created a much wider cycle of frescoes with the narration of the life of San Galgano. For a long time the Head of San Galgano was kept as a relic in the church, but today it is exhibited in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. In the church there is one of the oldest still existing organs dating back to 1531. Today the church can be visited and open to the public.
