The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, through its collections of about 20,000 works including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and installations, offers a rich representation of Italian artistic culture from the nineteenth century to the present day.

The National Gallery with the current arrangement of the collections - conceived as an exhibition on the theme of time - goes beyond the usual chronological trace and branches out into simultaneous paths where the works are juxtaposed for similarities, contrasts, references, and quotations.

Alongside the great names in art history, the works of Italian and foreign contemporary artists allow for a broadening of perspectives to different or unexpected stimuli and suggestions. By reinterpreting the works in different situations from those in which they were originally created, the perspectives and possible readings multiply.

Among the names of artists - both national and international - exhibited here are, among others: Klimt, Pollock, Burri, Canova, Mondrian, Capogrossi, Pascali, de Chirico, Licini, Monet, Duchamp etc.

Even the building by Cesare Bazzani from 1911 is a protagonist of the aforementioned reinterpretation, establishing a dialogue between present and past: an almost archaeological method has restored it to its original splendor and in immediate relation with the present.

The National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art naturally undergoes continuous phases of transformation and renewal, also in light of the new experiences and critical readings that over time become necessary. It therefore positions itself as a place of encounter, research, and discovery, inviting reflection on contemporary exhibition languages and practices, on what the role of the museum is in our present, and on what common grounds it can weave relationships with its audience.
