The mission of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art is to promote the understanding of our era through art and culture, involving the local and international public to encourage the social and civil growth of the territory in which it operates. In addition to collecting and exhibiting works of art, the Museum is a center for creativity , research , education and the development of culture especially in the field of contemporary art in a reflection on the present that passes through a dynamic relationship with the past . The Castello di Rivoli is also a point of reference for the artistic world, establishing for the first time in Italy the model of a museum dedicated to the contemporary. With its innovative exhibitions and radical artistic performances, since its foundation in 1984, the Museum of Contemporary Art has developed taking into account the uniqueness of the baroque building that houses it. Designed in 1718 by Filippo Juvarra, the Castle is a constant source of inspiration for invited artists, stimulating the creation of new works designed specifically for the Museum's Permanent Collection.
The Museum is a vital center for experimentation, promoting significant artists of multiple generations, multiple geographical and cultural origins. The Museum brings this process to life by curating a coherent exhibition program and public events which, in addition to making the Collection accessible, includes the organization of new and interdisciplinary temporary exhibitions.
The Education Department with its countless activities, research and projects makes the idea of an open and inclusive museum, a hotbed of thought, a research and experimentation center tangible. The commitment to spreading knowledge of contemporary art and culture is expressed both at the Museum and in the territory: thanks to the many collaborations activated by the Education Department with entities committed to promoting collective well-being, art is intertwined with life of people and with the demands of society. A conceptual and professional primacy that has drawn from the place and specificity of contemporary art the elements that characterize and determine the figure of the Artenaut, a new and specific professionalism that goes beyond the now obsolete concept of teaching and museum guidance. The countless activities at the Castello di Rivoli, aimed at different audiences, assign centrality to the relationship between art and the person, in a perspective of continuous research and learning: every experience at the Museum is a journey into the artistic dimension that contributes to promoting integral development of the individual.
