The Museum is designed for a "Middle Ages in the Middle Ages" and re-proposes moments of medieval life in the unique, stately and majestic environment of the Cistercian Guest House which is part of one of the most grandiose monastic complexes in Italy, the Fossanova Abbey.

The museum itinerary is partly dedicated to the last stages of life of the Roman Privernum, witnessed by everyday objects such as furnishings, funerary objects and precious sculptural elements of the original liturgical furniture which, together with the Byzantine-style paintings, embellished the presbytery and the altar of a Christian basilica built in the ancient city.

The story of the Museum then leads to Fossanova, to the architectures of the abbey complex and to the life habits of the Cistercian monks with a display of great visual impact that reproduces moments from the daily life of the monks.

Materials from archaeological excavations are exhibited, with objects of everyday life together with precious and meaningful elements of the original furnishings of the abbey church.

The monastic buildings are reproduced in large watercolors that "split" the walls to show the life that took place inside, a life that visitors can project, just outside the door of the Museum, by visiting the village of Fossanova.
