Pirelli HangarBicocca is a non-profit foundation born in Milan in 2004 from the conversion of an industrial plant into an institution, and is dedicated to the production and promotion of contemporary art.
A dynamic place for experimentation and research, with its 15,000 square meters, Pirelli HangarBicoccais one of the largest horizontal exhibition spaces in Europe.
Personal exhibitions and installations by Italian and international artists are organized every year. Each exhibition project is conceived in close relationship with the architecture of the building and is accompanied by a program of collateral and in-depth events. Access to the space and exhibitions is totally free and the dialogue between the public and art is favored by the presence of cultural mediators. Since 2013 Vicente Todolí is the Artistic Director.
The building that houses Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, once the site of a factory for the construction of locomotives, includes several spaces, including three exhibition spaces characterized by the visible presence of the original architectural elements of the last century: the Shed, the Navate, and the Cube. Le Navate hosts, among other things, the famous permanent work by Anselm Kiefer, The Seven Heavenly Palaces 2004-2015, which since the inauguration of its seven reinforced concrete towers has made Pirelli HangarBicocca one of the places not to be missed in Milan.
