The Capuchin Museum of Milan was born in 2001 due to the need to preserve, protect and enhance the vast heritage of cultural heritage of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin of the Lombardy Province.

The first nucleus of works had already reached the Provincial Archive of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Lombardy for various reasons such as the need for more adequate conservation, security and the closure of the convents.

The opening of the Museum has at the same time made it possible to present to the public the reality of the religious Order which, present in Lombardy since 1535, has been able to be appreciated by the population for its daily service among the people.

Through works of art (many still unpublished) the Museum presents the thought and activity of the Capuchins, the cultural and religious sphere in which they operated, inserted in broad itineraries of the tradition and history of Milan.

The offer of the permanent collection - including artists such as Jacopo Palma il Giovane, Camillo Procaccini, Giandomenico Tiepolo, Guercino and twentieth-century Italian artists such as Boccioni, Sironi, Carrà, De Pisis (...) flanked by temporary exhibitions, continues the purpose of preserving, studying and spreading history, art and culture with the spirit that has always pervaded the activity of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Lombardy.
This is well expressed by the words of fra Galdino, in the famous quote by Manzoni: "We are like the sea that receives from all sides and returns to distribute".
The works of art, heritage of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, are "returned" through the Museum so that everyone can enjoy them. For this reason, admission is, and always will be, free, relying once again on the generosity of everyone to support the Museum's activities. Now, through art, the Capuchin friars continue to get close and offer the possibility of a glimpse of Beauty.
