The Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon, or more simply MAC, for the inhabitants of the city, is a museum of contemporary art located in Lyon. Together with the Musée des Beaux Arts, it is one of the most important museums in the city. It is located in the Cité Internationale district, near the Parc de la Tete d'Or. The building that houses the museum is part of the Palais de la foire de Lyon, built in the early twentieth century and modified by Renzo Piano in view of a modernization that could house the contemporary art museum. The Musée d'art Contemporain de Lyon was inaugurated in 1995, together with the third Lyon Biennale. The permanent collection has more than 1400 works with different shapes, materials, sizes. There are paintings, video installations, sculptures, sound installations, photographs, drawings, performances. The museum organizes numerous exhibitions and retrospectives every year.
