The Merseyside Maritime Museum, also known as the Maritime Museum, is a museum in Liverpool, England, It is part of the National Museums Liverpool. It was opened 1984 and expanded in 1986. The museum is located in Warehouses D at Albert Dock, along with Piermaster's House, Canning Half Tide Dock and Canning Graving Docks. The museum's collections reflect Liverpool's international importance as a gateway to the world and a trading city. At the beginning of the museum, assembling the collection was not easy, mainly due to a strong lack of funds but Robert Gladstone (marine historian and great-grandson of former Prime Minister William Gladstone) created the naval gallery in 1931 then practically destroyed in 1941. In 1965 the History of the ship gallery was opened and work began on the creation of the museum only in the seventies.
Today the museum houses many maritime-themed collections, including those dedicated to the Titanic, the famous ocean liner that sank on April 14, 1912.
The collection of documents and posters dating back to 1900 can also be admired here
