Considered one of the masterpieces of engraving art by Giorgio Morandi, the work, dated 1928, takes up, with some variations, two paintings executed by the artist in 1927. Eight states of this still life are known, that is, eight versions with modifications, all present in Bertarelli. In this work, the artist elevates a genre like still life to sublimity, considered for centuries as minor and more humble compared to sacred or historical painting. The prestigious collection of Morandi's etchings, a significant part of Lamberto Vitali's collection (1896-1992), arrived at the institute in the form of a bequest in 1995.
