This curious teapot is a model from the period of Johann Friedrich Böttger, the first director of the great Saxon manufacture, inspired by the forms for silverware published by a Frenchman, Jacques Stella, in 1667. The pictorial decoration in chinoiserie in monochrome gold is the work of the Hausmaler of Augsburg and perhaps the most famous of these: Bartolomeo Seuter.
