The Mask was found, in 1906, in the precious funerary equipment of the Tomb of Kha. Performed in cartonnage, a sort of papier-mâché made with linen bandages soaked in plaster, gilded and decorated with inserts in semi-precious stones and glass, it had the task of protecting the face of the deceased and restoring her sight. The use of colors and gold allude to the divine status of Merit, who became, after death, an incorruptible spirit.
