The two large tapestries preserved in the Hall of the Giants, depicting the Stories of Alexander the Great, are considered by experts to be among the most important tapestries of the fifteenth century. Woven with threads of gold, silver, silk, and wool, they were created around 1460 in Tournai, in the Duchy of Burgundy. This tapestry shows a blend of historical and fairy-tale elements and reflects fifteenth-century Burgundy in the style of costumes, the type of weapons, and the architecture. In the center is depicted a legendary episode in which the Macedonian ruler reached Paradise seated inside a cage adorned with precious stones.
